In a stunning development, the prosecuting attorney has admitted that the public lynching of White motorist Jamie Urton in a black Cincinnati neighborhood last month was motivated by racial hatred. He even stated that there are some neighborhoods which motorists should not stop in for any reason. However, the two black murderers will NOT be charged with a hate crime, he added.

A Hamilton County grand jury returned murder indictments Thursday morning against two men accused in the “disgusting” and race-related slaying of a motorist who accidentally hit a 4-year-old boy, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced.

The boy’s father, Jamall Killings, 24, and Deonte Baber, 25, are accused of killing Jamie Urton,44, of Mason, an employee for the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, on March 24.

Killings faces an additional charge of felonious assault.

Urton was driving back to work about lunchtime when he accidentally hit a 4-year old boy in the 2300 block of Kenton Street with his car and pulled over to check on him.

The boy was not seriously hurt, and the accident was not Urton’s fault, Deters said Wednesday.

Killings was not watching his 2 and 4-year-old children, he said, and each  wandered into the street. That’s when the 4-year-old was hit.

Killings immediately went to the car and beat Urton up, knocking him semi-unconscious.

“You would think your first instinct would be to run to your 4-year-old,” Deters said. “No, his first instinct was to go to the car, open the door and start beating the driver.”

It’s even more disturbing what happened next, Deters said.

Baber came out with a gun and yelled at Urton’s passenger, telling him “Get out of here, you’re black,” according to Deters.

Then Baber opened fire, shooting his gun five times. Urton  was shot once and bled to death, Deters said.

…And even though Killings didn’t pull the trigger on the gun that killed Urton, he is complicit in the murder.

“He’s the one who opened the door, he’s the one who started it. He probably rendered (Urton) unconscious,” Deters said, adding that Killings, however, has “gotten religion lately and is cooperating.”

Video captured the slaying, which Deters said is clearly racially motivated. The video, shot by a private citizen, will not be released until the trial.

There are certain neighborhoods he said he would  advise  people to not stop in after accidents and instead go directly to the closest police station.

…(Killings) pleaded not guilty during a brief hearing in Hamilton County Municipal Court on April 5 and remains locked up in the county jail on a $2.1 million bond.

Court documents state Killings caused Urton’s death “by means of a firearm” and caused him serious physical harm.

Baber, who remains at large, killed Urton “by firing multiple gunshots into the victim’s vehicle, striking the victim,” police wrote in a sworn statement.

Cincinnati police have been exhaustively searching for him with the assistance of a regional apprehension task force. They describe him as armed and dangerous.

Baber has a criminal record that includes arrests for allegedly running from police, firing guns and concealing them, court records show.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to his apprehension.

Deters put $5,000 of drug forfeiture money from his office toward the reward to bring it to $7,500.

Deters is seeking federal help via federal warrants as authorities continue to try to track down Baber and hold him accountable for his alleged role in Urton’s homicide. He no longer thinks Baber is in the area.

He said he will not charge Killings and Baber with a hate crime because it’s only a misdemeanor.

A man who is alleged to be Killings can be heard on a 911 call admitting to shooting the driver, according to a recording of the call.

“I took care of dude. I killed him. He’s dead. He dead. The dude that hit you by the car. He dead. I killed him. I’m serious he’s dead. The dude that him you with the car… I killed him,” the man said.

[‘I took care of dude,’ 911 caller says he killed driver who struck child]

The man on the call also can be heard comforting the injured child by telling him:

“You hear me? He dead. I killed him. He dead. You good,” the man said on the recording.

“Your daddy got you. You know I love you, don’t you? I’m here with you. I love you, baby.”…(snip)
